February 2 is General Plan EIR comment deadline

February 2, 2009, is now the deadline for public comment on the Draft Environmental Impact Report for the county General Plan Update.

This new public review period began on December 16, 2008. Comments are due by 5:00 p.m. on February 2, 2009.

The comment period on the EIR had already been extended because of complaints by Michael Stamp of Open Monterey and LandWatch that many document references in the EIR were wrong. This new delay is believed to be related to those complaints.

The delay is another in a series since the EIR missed an April 15 date for publication. It means the GPU itself will come before the Board of Supervisors for final approval sometime in 2009, when new Supervisor Jane Parker is seated on the board.
